Your Wedding Morning: How to Make It Calm, Fun & Totally You

There’s something so special about the morning of your wedding. The nerves. The excitement. The soft music playing while you sip coffee and watch the day unfold. It’s a pocket of time that goes by in a blur- but with a little planning, it can be one of the most memorable parts of the entire day.

At Braeside, we see dozens of wedding mornings unfold, and they all look a little different - but the best ones have something in common: they feel calm, joyful, and totally true to the couple.

Here are some gentle tips to help you create a wedding morning that’s just as meaningful as the ceremony itself.

1. Set the Tone Early

How your morning starts can shape how the whole day feels. Set the tone with a slow breakfast, your favourite playlist, and the people who make you feel calm and happy.

Whether you’re getting ready solo, with your bridal party, or with your closest family, try to keep the vibe relaxed and low-pressure. You’ll have enough butterflies as it is - so lean into calm energy wherever you can.

2. Create a Getting-Ready Space That Feels Special

Your surroundings make a huge difference. At Braeside, couples have exclusive access to our beautifully restored 1897 homestead from 7am on the day of their wedding.

It’s designed for comfort, beauty, and function - with makeup desks, a bridal gown reveal room, Italian marble details, brass finishes, and a dreamy vintage tub that’s become a bit of an icon.

It’s a space to breathe, to be still, and to let the excitement slowly build. Plus, it photographs beautifully (and you will want those getting-ready photos!).

3. Don’t Overpack the Schedule

It can be tempting to squeeze in a million things - gift giving, letters, champagne toasts, hair, makeup, outfit reveals, photo sessions... but your morning will fly by faster than you think.

Build in extra time. Add buffer space between hair and makeup slots. Don’t rush through breakfast. Give yourself a quiet 10-minute window to sit by yourself and soak it all in.

You’ll thank yourself later.

4. Curate the Senses

This one’s a little underrated but so powerful. Think about what you’ll see, hear, smell, and taste that morning.

  • Scent: Use a signature perfume or essential oil - it’ll forever remind you of the day.

  • Sound: Make a calm playlist for the morning (or a silly throwback one to ease nerves).

  • Touch: Choose a luxe robe or comfy PJs that feel soft and indulgent.

  • Taste: Don’t forget to eat! Have your favourite coffee, a light breakfast (which we provide!), or a grazing platter.

These little sensory details make the morning feel grounding and personal.

5. Be Intentional With Who You Invite In

You don’t have to have a huge crowd around you while you’re getting ready. Choose people who help you stay calm and excited - whether that’s your bridal party, your mum, or your best friend.

You want people around you who will help you laugh, breathe, and feel supported. Not people who bring chaos or stress.

6. Don’t Forget What It’s All About

The wedding morning is full of little moving parts - but at the end of the day, it’s not about timelines or hair schedules. It’s about the moment before everything changes. The deep breath before the “I do.”

Let yourself feel it. Let it be emotional. And don’t be afraid to slow it all down.
