The history of the site of Braeside dates back to 1873 when the whole area was acquired by former Brisbane Mayor (1862) Thomas Stephens. The land was subdivided for farming and in late 1890, the original owner, John Davidson Snr, built the four bedroom homestead which still remains on the Merrimac site. Named Braeside (Hillside) to reflect in his Scottish heritage, honours the location and the terrace outlook in which the homestead stands.

The home remained in the Davidson family and remained with his daughter Alison "Joan" Gooding (nee Davidson) until it was sold to Helene and Bob Hutchinson in 1999.

The property has been used as a dairy farm, banana farm, even a bowling green and has now been a wedding venue for the past two decades.
